The state funeral of former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon will be held Monday. He passed away Saturday at a medical centre after being comatose for eight years. The 85-year-old leader suffered a stroke in 2006 and slipped into a coma. His condition deteriorated last week after he suffered a kidney failure. He died at the Sheba Medical Centre near Tel Aviv. Sharon will be laid to rest at a site close to his family's Sycamore Ranch in southern Israel and will be buried next to his second wife Lily Sharon, who died of cancer 14 years ago.
Reuters said on Tuesday Greece is waiting for the green light from the European Central Bank on plans it has submitted to reopen the Athens stock market after a month-long shutdown. The exchange could reopen as early as Wednesday. The report said Greek regulators offered two different plans for the reopening - one allowing unrestricted trading and a second that imposed restrictions on trading by Greek investors to prevent capital fleeing banks. The Athens stock exchange has been shut since June 29 after the government shut banks and imposed capital controls to prevent banks from collapsing under the weight of mass withdrawals.
Authorities say a man killed by an escort he met online is being investigated for possible links to the unsolved disappearances or slayings of women nationwide. Neal Falls, of Springfield, Oregon, was carrying axes, a shovel and bleach when he was killed July 18. Authorities said Monday he had been stopped, interviewed or investigated by police in at least 20 states. Police say Falls was fatally shot as he attacked and choked the escort in Charleston, West Virginia, and she grabbed his handgun off the ground and fired it.

Kim Kardashian has finally popped -- either that, or she just left the Spanx at home for the night; it really could go either way. Kim looks like somewhere between her 4th and 5th month of pregnancy. Most pregnant women are adorable simply on the grounds that they have a tiny little baby growing in their midsection, and even though that's a valid reason to praise nearly anyone, we're just going to go ahead and appreciate what Kim's doing here -- which is not squeezing her uterus into submission, forcing her baby to mature amongst things like ribs, xiphoid processes, and livers. Bad company, you know.
Four Marines and one sailor who were killed in the Chattanooga shooting reportedly will only be eligible to receive Purple Heart awards if the FBI declares the shooter had ties to a terror organization. The FBI has only referred to Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez as a "homegrown violent extremist." Marine Corps public affairs officer Maj. Clark Carpenter said “Determination of eligibility will have to wait until all the facts are gathered and the FBI investigation is complete." Marines Lance Corporal Squire "Skip" Wells, Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Sgt. Carson Holmquist and Staff Sgt. David Wyatt were all killed in the July 16 attack.
