After sticking with a blond hue for nearly a year, Emma Roberts has gone back to brunette. The American Horror Story actress showed off her darker hair color while out and about in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Unlike the last time the bride-to-be made a shade swap, this time she kept her bob haircut as is—no extensions. Emma got her chin-length crop in January just days after AHS co-star Sarah Paulson debuted a similar style but long before the cut became Hollywood's hottest hairstyle. Both stars are set to return for the season 4 American Horror Story: Freak Show. Last week, Roberts and fiancé Evan Peters snuck in a mini-vacation while attending Maui Film Festival, where the actress received the Shinning Star Award.
An astonishingly tragic year for air travel in Southeast Asia turned worse Sunday when an AirAsia plane carrying 162 people disappeared over stormy Indonesian waters, with no word on its fate despite several hours of searching by air and sea. AirAsia Flight 8501 vanished in airspace possibly thick with dense storm clouds, strong winds and lightning on its way from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore. Searchers had to fight against heavy rain. The Malaysia-based carrier's loss comes on top of the still-unexplained disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in March and the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in July over Ukraine. At the Surabaya airport, shocked family members pored over the plane's manifest, crying and embracing when they learned the news. Nearly all the passengers and crew are Indonesians, who are frequent visitors to Singapore, particularly on holidays.
Pippa Middleton had quite a successful year. The brunette beauty earned a little over $350,000 in the last 12 months with her booming business venture, PXM Enterprises. According to government filings for the company, the total cash on hand is listed as around $325,000. Not bad, Pippa! Not bad at all. And when Kate Middleton's sis isn't busy making paper with her business, she's writing articles for Vanity Fair and The Telegraph on a variety of topics from politics to hostess tips and even sports.
As protests over the police shooting of a homeless man in Los Angeles continue, new information on the 39-year-old victim has begun to emerge. The man is believed to be a French national and a convicted bank robber, according to a report from the LA Times. Fifteen years ago, the homeless man was convicted with armed robbery at a bank in Thousand Oaks, California. He was sent to federal prison, according to the report, which cites court documents and unnamed officials. His shooting death on Sunday has sparked protests in the city and prompted the police department to release a statement. The Los Angeles Police Department's inspector general and the city's district attorney are investigating the shooting.
Prepare yourselves to fall in love with Taylor Swift even more. Four-year-old San Antonio resident Jalene Salinas has been battling an aggressive form of terminal brain cancer in recent months. And while her parents have worked tirelessly to check off every item from her bucket list, there was one important item that was a bit harder to accomplish: Jalene wanted to dance with T. Swift to her hit single "Shake It Off." Fast-forward to Monday evening around 6 p.m. and the Salinas family got a call they would never forget. Yes, the 25-year-old Grammy winner was ready to FaceTime with the young fan. During the 20-minute conversation, Swift said, "You look beautiful tonight, you really do. You're just as pretty as your pictures."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the speaker's podium for a closely-watched Iran speech to Congress on Tuesday and dropped references to Game of Thrones, Robert Frost, Google, YouTube and Twitter. At one point, Netanyahu dropped a casual gem of a Game of Thrones reference when warning of the danger posed by militant Islam, whether it comes at the hands of the jihadis of the Islamic State or in the nuclear ambitions of the Islamic Republic — otherwise known as Iran. While also discussing Iran nuclear talks, Netanyahu said, "This is a bad deal. It's a very bad deal. We're better off without it." Rather, the Israeli prime minister called for a deal that further restricted Iran's nuclear program for a longer period of time.
