Apple reported its second straight quarter of double-digit percentage growth in iPhone sales as it heads into a major refresh of the company's flagship product. The company said it sold 35.2 million iPhones in the quarter ended June 28, up 12.7% from the 31.2 million units in the year-ago period. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said "We're thrilled with the results, and we're thrilled with where we are going. The momentum is really strong." Cook said the strong iPhone sales were driven by demand from Brazil, Russia, India, and China.
An astonishingly tragic year for air travel in Southeast Asia turned worse Sunday when an AirAsia plane carrying 162 people disappeared over stormy Indonesian waters, with no word on its fate despite several hours of searching by air and sea. AirAsia Flight 8501 vanished in airspace possibly thick with dense storm clouds, strong winds and lightning on its way from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore. Searchers had to fight against heavy rain. The Malaysia-based carrier's loss comes on top of the still-unexplained disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in March and the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in July over Ukraine. At the Surabaya airport, shocked family members pored over the plane's manifest, crying and embracing when they learned the news. Nearly all the passengers and crew are Indonesians, who are frequent visitors to Singapore, particularly on holidays.

Glee star Naya Rivera and her husband Ryan Dorsey stepped out for the first time since announcing they're expecting at LAX, where Rivera covered up her baby bump with a large Chanel purse and matching green plaid blazer and skirt. She topped her look off with a large maroon hat and matching high boots. The announcement hasn't slowed Rivera down at all because she recently tweeted that she was having a "blast" on the set of her new show, Devious Maids, which she signed onto now that Glee is coming to an end. It looks like she'll be working until it's time to take a break!

Kosovo's Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci urged the European Union and NATO to speed up integration of Balkan states or risk the spreading influence of both Russia and Islamist extremists. Thaci, the first prime minister of independent Kosovo until last year, told Reuters he hoped for tangible results in the coming months, such as a new EU visa regime for Kosovo. Thaci said in Berlin on Tuesday, after meeting his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, "It is the moment when Brussels should move from rhetoric and nice words about Kosovo to concrete measures."
