It does work. You will burn more fat and calories doing in it spirts than all at one time.

I tried intervals for 15 minutes a day on a treadmill. In under four months with combination of healthier dieting I went from over 190 lbs down to 150, and from a 36 waist down to a fitting 35.

UUUhg. I could never do this right off. Put me on 3 walking for a while, maybe one or two minutes jogging - that's it for the first week. I'll do this - but will work up to it slowly.
    • lv  •  2 months ago
Is there an easier way! I've been walking (briskly) for months 3-5 mi at least four days a week.. walking is slower, its all time consuming.

I need someone to invent some better speed control system. It seems I must just be uncoordinated, but I struggle starting at 3.5, then pushing the 'up' button until it gets to 6+. Once I am running, even if slowly, I then struggle trying to reach to the console, find the 'down' button and press it to get the speed back to 3.5 or so. Maybe it's just me...but that's like the hardest part, adjusting the speed up and down every minute.

you can always hold the side arm rails and pull your feet off to the side of the treadmill while you adjust the speed, standing still for 4-5 secs is not going to affect your workout.

I have problems with that too. I always thought a hand held controller for treadmills would be a great idea. There are probably treadmills out there with something like that, but I've never used one.

I've been doing this for months, only 20 seconds at 9.5 and 40 seconds at 3.3, then do that about eight to ten times, along with eating the right foods, I lost almost 100 lbs in 4 months. I still do this 2 or 3 times a week, and lift weights, and have no trouble maintaining my weight.

Strength train for more muscle. Muscle burns more calories then fat. Also do cardio which is easy on your knees, and incorporates alot of muscle groups like plyometrics.

        shut up.

Willie sounds like a fatty. Great advice! Strength training also continues burning fat for hours and even days after a workout.

I eat healthy and exercise but always had problems getting the last 10 lbs off. Intervals made it happen.

I do a thirty second sprint at Level 10 and a ninety second jog at level 5 for 20 minutes. It burns!
      • Robert 3 months ago
It's the 20 minutes at level five that made it happen. Interval training is for cardio-vacular fitness. Good Luck in your training. The last 10 is always the hardest!!
      • Bootqueen 3 months ago
Hell I'll be happy getting the first ten off!!!!!!
      • Terri 3 months ago
You're right. The last 10 lbs IS the hardest to lose. I run long distances at a steady pace, but the last ten is not moving! I will switch my running routine and try this method. Thanks for the tip!

    • Becky  •  Richmond, Virginia  •  3 months ago
I did something similar to this before my last child was born. It worked great...along with weight training and eating right.
    • Katherine  •  New York, New York  •  3 months ago
Its all about diet. Eating right and not eating anything 3 hours before sleep, that really makes a difference.

Stair climb. Done. Best cardio and fat burner out there. There is a reason people "working out" avoid the stair climber...it kicks butt. Treadmills do most of the work for them...so it's easier.
