The IRS came under more fire from Congress over unanswered questions surrounding the targeting of political groups that remain after a preliminary review issued from the agency. Treasury-Department-inspector general J. Russell George says he has no evidence that progressive groups seeking tax-exempt status got tough-treatment-from-the Internal Revenue Service. The National Taxpayer Advocate, a watchdog inside the Internal Revenue Service, responding to charges of agency bias against Tea Party and other conservative groups, called for "apology payments" of up to $1,000 for those the agency subjects to excessive delays.
