Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he expects recently announced peace talks with the Palestinians to be tough, and that any agreement reached would have to be ratified in a national Israeli referendum. Japanese broadcasters projected that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's ruling coalition won a majority of seats in the upper house of parliament in elections, giving it control of both chambers for the first time in six years. Thousands gathered in dozens of cities around countries to mourn the unarmed black teenager shot to death early last year, and to add their voices to a debate on race that his death has set off.
