Italian police on Wednesday seized 27 pizzerias, cafes and other eateries in the heart of Rome, as well as other businesses elsewhere, in a probe highlighting seemingly legitimate businesses fronting for organized crime. The national anti-Mafia prosecutor's office said other confiscated properties included gas stations and parking lots near Naples train stations, allegedly used to launder Camorra syndicate revenue from drug trafficking, extortion and loan-sharking.
An astonishingly tragic year for air travel in Southeast Asia turned worse Sunday when an AirAsia plane carrying 162 people disappeared over stormy Indonesian waters, with no word on its fate despite several hours of searching by air and sea. AirAsia Flight 8501 vanished in airspace possibly thick with dense storm clouds, strong winds and lightning on its way from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore. Searchers had to fight against heavy rain. The Malaysia-based carrier's loss comes on top of the still-unexplained disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in March and the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in July over Ukraine. At the Surabaya airport, shocked family members pored over the plane's manifest, crying and embracing when they learned the news. Nearly all the passengers and crew are Indonesians, who are frequent visitors to Singapore, particularly on holidays.
Tinder Gouging!! It’s worse than it sounds Tinder is rolling out its premium pay to play version, which has recently got the app called out for accusations of ageism. With those under 30 required to pay $9.99 per month while those over are expected to fork over ten bucks more. Tinder says it has been experimenting with different pricing models in different countries and the two-tier system reflects the higher earnings of the 30 and over age group. Of course this could also be seen as a convenient euphemism for “older singles are more desperate to find someone.” Tinder Plus, as the new subscription service is called, adds a host of benefits: Unlimited swipes, the ability to undo swipes, and a feature that lets users message and find matches outside of their current geographical location. And it’s now available as an in-app purchase through the free version of Tinder. Tinder is now hoping that they can get away offering a student discount like Spotify does without alienating their older demographics. But it’ll now be up to their user’s to prove if all truly is fair in love and war.

Former CIA Director David Petraeus has agreed to plead guilty to mishandling classified materials, the Justice Department said Tuesday, March 3, 2015. A Justice Department statement says a plea agreement has been filed in U.S. District Court in Charlotte, North Carolina. The agency says the former top Army general was charged with one count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material. The statement says Petraeus had signed an agreement pleading guilty to the single criminal count. Federal investigators had been looking into whether Petraeus improperly shared classified materials with Paula Broadwell, with whom he admitted having an affair when he resigned from his position in November 2012. A law enforcement official had previously said agents found a substantial number of classified documents on Broadwell’s computer and at her home.
