MIT Researchers Develop Running Robot

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a robot capable of running up to 10mph. The robot is being referred to as the MIT cheetah by its creators. According to the MIT News Office, the robot “weighs about as much as its feline counterpart.”

The current model, after tweaks, may be able to reach speeds up to 30 mph. The researchers used a “bounding algorithm” to mimic the running pattern of a cheetah, with each leg exterting greater force as it hits the ground when higher speeds are sought. Credit: YouTube/Biomimetics MIT
