Aerial Views of Lake Erie Algae Bloom

Ohio state authorities announced that Toledo’s water was safe to drink on August 4. The announcement follows a water crisis in the city, which was triggered by algae blooms in Lake Erie.

Around 500,000 people in northwestern Ohio were warned not to drink, or boil, tap water after microcystin was detected in a water-treatment plant which draws water from Lake Erie.
