New York City’s Second Avenue subway line construction may be delayed again

A $15 billion gap in the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s five-year capital plan may curtail the city’s Second Avenue subway project. According to MTA Chairman Tom Prendergast, funding gaps in MTA’s $32 billion capital proposal will probably mean that the second phase of the construction project will be eliminated. This phase of the construction project extends from 96th Street to 125th Street in East Harlem. Prendergast told the New York Daily News that the MTA’s priorities are repairing and replacing equipment in the existing subway lines rather than extending new lines.
