      Going out to dinner and discuss breaking up makes more sense than taking a trip together. Take a trip together will give false hope to the partner that does not want to break up. A trip together can bring the couple closer together and not take them apart. A trip together would cause confusion for both sides. A trip will cost money and who wants to pay for that especially if your deciding to breakup. Not a good idea. You want to leave the person not given them false hope. Sorry I dissagree

      Great idea in theory, but how many people being broken up with are willing to actually go celebrate that with the person breaking things off. I imagine it would feel like a slap in the face for most real people. Also, if the person still wanted to be with the person doing the breakup, they might see that celebratory trip as one last opportunity to win the partner back which would not be healthy.

        Not only that Neil, what happens if the break up involves someone stealing from you, surely no one would celebrate with that person. It's a horrible idea!

        or if the breakup has so much animosity to it that the moment you go to talk to them on the phone #$%$ just gets stirredup even more.i know, i tried that years ago before niecy ever mention it. and it got UGLY!!!so when me and my ex-fiance broke up 2 years ago. you how break up go , the same old he-said/she-said bull. but the next day decided to give her a call to apologize and to tell her if it is ending, at least we should not end it with hated-------BIG MISTAKE!!.it only not ended good, but also ended with her confirming her infidelity and throwing it up in my face and ending the coversation with a death threat against my family. yeah, sounds just peachy, don't it!this advice that niecy just suggested is more gender-biased geared towards woman to do, women can get away with the amicable " let's be friends" approachto breaking up. but this don't work for dude. i can garuntee with 90% to 95% accuracy this WILL NOT WORK for a man to do !so my opinion( and i state MY OPINION) the best way to deal with a break up is--wel-- just---TO DEAL!!!!. pack up, ruck up, and move on!!!

        When my Husband asked me for a divorce, I asked him if we could go to the lake where I first meant him. He thought I would just be begging for him to stay, but I assured him I just wanted a last date. You can not make anyone stay, if they want to leave. He broke my heart, but at least I had that last walk with him and will always remember it. Its been over 11 years now. I miss him sometimes, but he made the choice to leave ,not much I can do to make someone except my love.

      Is it a dumb idea, or are you just upset that you yourself do not possess the grace to pull something like that off. The thing is, maybe in her situation and NOT yours, is that even though they did not match as life partners, the both of them must have realized that the other was a good enough person to have had in their life and decided (because it's a choice) that they'd rather be thankful for knowing each other at all. When it comes down to it, the idea of "breaking up" has negative connotations, but do we really want to be with someone who doesn't want to be with us? I don't think so.
