Adrian Grenier’s New York: Get Plugged In!
In this episode of the online competition series “Plugged In,” actor and star of “Entourage” Adrian Grenier takes viewers to his hometown of New York, where he puts our six contestants to the test with new challenges of stamina, problem solving and driving skills. The contestants, working in teams of two, using the all-new 2012 Ford Focus Electric, unravel Grenier’s clues about his favorite Brooklyn locations and activities, which lead them on adventurous challenges, linked to Adrian’s personal life. The teams compete to earn “butterfly” points, with the ultimate goal of representing the Big Apple in the finale and competing with winners in nine other cities for a chance to win an all-new Focus Electric.
Our first challenge takes the contestants to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, once the nation's premiere ship building facility and now a thriving industrial park with over 275 businesses and 6000 employees. Our teams operate as bike messengers and deliver ecofriendly products to three of the green manufacturers in the Yard: Scott Jordan Furniture, EcoLogic Solutions, and Bridge Cleaners.
For the second challenge, Adrian sends participants on a scavenger hunt to visit some of his most beloved locations in the Big Apple. The contestants earn extra points by trying to reach as many locations as possible during the allotted time, taking a picture in each location and uploading their photo to Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/groups/fordpluggedin/.
One of the locations is Chelsea’s Table. Whenever Adrian heads down to Chelsea Piers he loves stopping by this local café. Our contestants can snap a picture enjoying some of their frozen yogurt at this organic dairy bar to earn points. Another stop is the secret subterranean Chinatown restaurant Pulqueria. Teams can take a photo with the current menu located outside this restaurant known for their cactus tacos.
A regular chocoholic, Adrian loves visiting Mast Brothers Chocolate. To help offset their carbon footprint, Mast Brothers Chocolate transports their beans by sailboat from Brazil to their factory in Kings County. Contestants snap a picture enjoying one of the worldly samples from their Chocolate tasting room for more points. Prospect Park is Adrian’s favorite New York park. Grabbing a picture in front of the Arch dedicated to the Defenders of the Union earns our contestants credit for this stop.
Finally, teams have the option to stop at Brooklyn Bowl. Not your average bowling alley, this Brooklyn landmark also has a live stage that features some of the greatest music acts from around the country.
The final challenge brings our contestants to the Brooklyn Grange farm which, when complete, will be the largest rooftop farm in the world. Our teams will be helping to get this farm one step closer to that by working as farm hands to install soil rows and plant tomatoes for the farm. The winning team will move on to the finale for their chance to win an all-new Ford Focus Electric.
